STARKVILLE — There is a buzz in the Mississippi State softball team’s locker room.
Eight-game winning streaks always help create that excitement.
“The confidence level on this team is growing,” MSU coach Vann Stuedeman said. “You can see the strides from the first week of the season to the second, then from the second to the third.”
West Point baseball team beats Starkville
STARKVILLE — When West Point High School senior Bobby Woodard lacks confidence, all he has to do is look in the dugout and find his head coach.
“Bobby is our senior leader,” West Point High baseball coach Blake Hutchison said. “He is our go-to guy. I have complete confidence in him getting job done. When he is on the mound, you feel good. You feel like he will find a way.”
Woodard found that way Tuesday night at Danny Carlisle Field, as West Point beat Starkville 5-3.

MSU softball team will kick of season today
STARKVILLE — Opening day always has been special for Alexis Silkwood.
However, today at Nusz Park, Silkwood will be full of even more emotion as she begins her senior season by pitching for the Mississippi State softball team in its season opener against Georgia State at 3 p.m. at Nusz Park.
MSU will play five games in three days in the Bulldog Kickoff Classic to open the 2017 season. MSU also will face Western Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. today.
