MSU softball will play BYU in NCAA tournament
STARKVILLE — Last August, Mississippi State softball coach Vann Stuedeman was encouraged because her senior class wanted to leave a legacy.
The legacy was fulfilled Sunday night as MSU returned to NCAA tournament regional play with a berth in the Salt Lake City Regional. No. 3 seed MSU (36-20) will face No. 2 seed BYU (44-11) at 5 p.m. Thursday at Dumke Family Softball Stadium on the University of Utah campus.
Oxford walks off for victory against New Hope
OXFORD — New Hope High School junior third baseman Nick Sims represents the new-look Trojans.
Sims ripped a two-strike, two-out double to tie his team’s Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A North State championship series opener with Oxford on Thursday night.
Minutes later, Oxford won the game 5-4. However, the Trojans erased a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh at Edwin Moak Field.

When trailing by more than a run, there is only so much a player can do at the plate, so Ivy tried to give her team a lift on defense.
“The thing about our team is we go all out,” Ivy said. “We are going to compete until there are no more outs. If there is a play to be made, we are going to try to make it. Stay in the process. Play a game one pitch at a time. Make plays. I love the fight in this team. We are going to battle.”
