Ole Miss starts beginning of end with Nutt

OXFORD — It was apparent quite quickly that this wasn’t a normal University of Mississippi football team practice.

As players slowly made their way up the stairs and onto the practice field, employees loaded boxes into a car in the parking lot, the first signs that the beginning of the end of Houston Nutt’s tenure is here.

JACKSON — Republican Tate Reeves of Flowood handily won Tuesday as lieutenant governor of Mississippi. Reeves defeated Reform Party candidate Tracella Lou O’Hara Hill. Democrats did not field a candidate in the race.

Republican Phil Bryant wins Miss. governor’s race

JACKSON — Republican Phil Bryant of Brandon won the Mississippi governor’s race Tuesday, defeating Democrat Johnny DuPree of Hattiesburg.

Bryant will take office Jan. 10 to succeed Republican Haley Barbour, who couldn’t seek a third term as governor.

Miss. defeats life at conception ballot initiative

Mississippi voters shot down a referendum Tuesday that would have effectively banned abortions in the state, rejecting an initiative that said life begins at conception.

Ole Miss’ Nutt will resign at end of season

OXFORD — Houston Nutt came to the University of Mississippi with the goal of becoming the first coach to lead the Rebels to the Southeastern Conference championship game.
