Harris helps BSC reach new heights
In her first season at Birmingham-Southern College, Tori Harris helped the softball program reach new heights.
Birmingham-Southern ended its season Sunday with the best record in school history.
Birmingham-Southern, ranked No. 17 nationally, swept a doubleheader from Hendrix College to finish the season 32-5 for an .865 winning percentage.
Harris, a 2006 graduate of New Hope High School, contributed to that success as a junior pitcher and third baseman.

Details released in ‘Operation Spring Cleaning’ drug roundup
Authorities have released the addresses of more than a dozen suspects apprehended during a drug roundup. During last week’s “Operation Spring Cleaning” — a joint operation conducted between the Columbus Lowndes Metro Narctoics Unit, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics — police nabbed several “known drug dealers.” The operation followed a 10-month investigation during which several undercover drug purchases were made.
MUW grad tapped new state law librarian
JACKSON — Attorney Amanda Tyre Watson has been selected to be the state law librarian by the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Watson will become acting librarian May 4 as she awaits confirmation by the state Legislature. The position is called for by the state constitution.
