A Columbus man suffered a bullet wound late last night during a drive-by shooting, according to police.
“We are working it as a drive-by,” said Columbus Police Chief Joseph St. John. “It”s unfortunate, but that”s what it looks like.”
At about 10:10 p.m. Thursday, 18-year-old Keion McGregory was standing on the corner of 23rd Street and Fourth Avenue North when seven shots rang out from an unidentified car, according to a press release from the Columbus Police Department.
In front of several witnesses, McGregory took one bullet to the shoulder. No one else was injured in the attack.
When police arrived a short time later, several .380 caliber bullet casings were found near the scene. As of this morning, police had not confirmed whether or not these are the same caliber as the bullet with which McGregory was shot.
McGregory was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for treatment of the bullet wound and was released early this morning.
Police do not have a suspect in the case, nor do they know how many were involved in the shooting. The investigation is being led by Criminal Investigator L.C. Cockrell.
