WEST POINT – Four more suspects are behind bars in connection with the June 2 fatal drive-by shooting on Meadowbrook Circle.
Nicklas Broyles, 22, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Ja’Marquez Melton, 22, Jamarcus Loyd, 22, and Eric Blanchard Jr., 24, were all arrested Friday and each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a Tuesday press release from West Point Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired at about 9 p.m. June 2 at Meadowbrook Circle, where they found Kolby Gann, 23, dead at the scene and another victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
At the time, Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter said investigators were unsure if Gann was the intended target of the drive-by. The press release did not note whether investigators believe Gann was the intended target of the drive-by or not.
Police made two initial arrests June 18 in connection with the shooting. Damari Brown, 18, was charged with first-degree murder, drive-by shooting and tampering with evidence. Officers also charged Kailey Walker, 19, with accessory after the fact.
Neither Brown or Walker was booked into the Clay County Detention Center. Instead, Brown was booked for holding at Lee County Jail while Walker was held at the Oktibbeha County Jail.
Brown’s bond was set at $595,000 and Walker’s bond was set at $150,000. Both posted bond as of June 23 and were released.
At the time Edwards said booking the two suspects at those jails was a department decision, but he would not specify the reason for the alternate booking locations.
Clay County Deputy Sheriff Steven “Woody” Woodruff said none of the four additional suspects arrested on Thursday or Friday were booked at the Clay County Jail either.
The press release did not note where the four additional suspects were taken for booking, or the reasoning behind their charges. The four suspects were also not listed on the Clay County Detention Center log as of Wednesday. All four suspects’ bonds were set at $250,000, the press release said.
The press release also did not note whether the suspects have posted bond since their initial court appearance and been released.
When reached by The Dispatch on Wednesday, Chief Michael Edwards declined to comment or answer questions regarding the four additional arrests made by the department.
The investigation remains ongoing and more arrests are expected, the press release said.
Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact the West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
