STEENS – Columbus Christian Academy is proud to announce the appointment of Matt Caldwell as its next Head of School, effective June 1. The school’s Head of School Search Committee delivered a unanimous recommendation to the board of directors, which in turn voted unanimously to extend an offer. Caldwell’s appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for CCA, and the board expresses deep optimism about his vision and leadership.
“We are overjoyed and fully united behind this decision,” a statement from the CCA Board of Directors said. “Matt brings exactly the experience, faith and heart for Christian education that our school and families deserve. We believe God has prepared him for this moment, and we could not be more excited to welcome him to CCA.”
Caldwell is no stranger to Columbus. A native of the city and a 1991 graduate of New Hope High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in teaching and coaching education from Mississippi State University in 1996, where he was a three-year football letterman and a two-time selection to the All-SEC Academic Honor Roll. He later earned a master’s degree in athletic administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003.
This marks Caldwell’s 30th year in education and 17th year as a school administrator. His career has taken him across Mississippi, where he has served as a teacher, coach and administrator at institutions including Columbus High School, Mize Attendance Center, Seminary Attendance Center, Taylorsville Attendance Center, North Forrest High School, George County High School, George County School District, Presbyterian Christian School, Heritage Academy and Oak Hill Academy.
His diverse background spans public schools and Christian academies, and district-level administration gives him a broad perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing CCA as it continues to grow and serve the Columbus community.
Caldwell and his wife Melissa have two adult children: son Cade, his fiancée Loriann and daughter Charlsi. Cade teaches and coaches at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, Alabama, and Charlsi is a graduate student working in the football office at MSU.
The board invites the entire CCA family of students, parents, faculty and the broader Columbus community to join in welcoming the Caldwells as they return home.
“I am beyond honored and excited to serve the CCA family as your new Head of School,” Caldwell said. “My mission is to lead our community in a pursuit of excellence that starts from the heart – bringing our absolute best effort to every task, maintaining an absolute best attitude in every challenge, and, most importantly, striving to show the love of Christ each and every day.”
