James and Amelia were the most popular names in Mississippi for baby boys and girls born in 2025, respectively, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Office of Vital Records and Public Health Statistics.
The office compiles a list of the most popular baby names for Mississippi residents each year. Counts and rankings are based on provisional birth certificate data.
This year, 163 baby boys were named James, and 113 girls were named Amelia, putting them at the top of the leaderboard. Last year, James ranked third and Amelia fourth in their respective categories.
Rounding out the top five most popular boy names are William, John, Noah and Elijah. Charlotte, Olivia, Ava and Elizabeth complete the list for girls.
Most names on this year’s list also appeared last year, although in different rankings. Some names jumped several spots to make the cut, including Weston and Stetson for boys and Delilah, Eden and Ailany for girls.
