HOOVER, Ala. — The No. 9 seed Ole Miss baseball team will take on No. 8 seed and No. 20 Auburn at 4:30 p.m. today (SEC Network) in an elimination game at the Southeastern Conference tournament at the Hoover Met.
Ole Miss (32-24, 14-16 SEC) beat Auburn (34-22, 16-14) 8-4 on Saturday to salvage one game in the best-of-three series that wrapped up the regular season.
Ole Miss will face Auburn in the SEC tournament for the first time since May 28, 2010, a 10-7 win in 10 innings; Ole Miss is 1-2 all-time in the conference tournament against Auburn.
Ole Miss is scheduled to go with redshirt sophomore right-hander Brady Feigl (2-2, 3.83 earned run average). Auburn is scheduled to go with redshirt junior right-hander Keegan Thompson (6-4, 2.30).
Feigl threw two scoreless innings Thursday against Auburn. He has made five starts this season, starting out as the No. 3 pitcher in the weekend rotation before moving to the bullpen
Jonah Todd leads Auburn with a .385 batting average that ranks third in the SEC. Todd is the only Tiger to earn SEC honors, collecting second-team All-SEC and All-Defense accolades.
Dylan Ingram paces Auburn in home runs (eight), while Daniel Robert has a team-high 40 RBIs.
Thompson and Casey Mize lead a one-two punch on the mound. Mize’s ERA of 1.97 is third in the SEC.
n In related news, Ole Miss third baseman Colby Bortles was named second-team All-SEC, while left-handed pitcher Ryan Rolison was named to the Freshman All-SEC team.
Bortles was a preseason second-team All-SEC honoree. He leads the Rebels with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs. A .270 hitter, Bortles also paces the team in multi-RBI games (12) in 54 starts. He’s hitting even better in SEC play with a .275 batting average.
Rolison began the season in the bullpen before emerging as a key piece to the Ole Miss rotation. The Jackson, Tennessee, native is 6-3 with a 3.06 ERA in 61 2/3 innings.
