A couple of favorites: quick breads and barbecued shrimp
I made several quick breads last week and my new favorite one is blueberry cobbler bread. It was a great use of last spring’s frozen berries and was the fruitiest of the three I made — strawberry and banana being the others.
A bowl of hugs: Anne Freeze has soups to get us through the last of winter
Brrr … it really has been cold and dreary lately. I am glad that I’m not affected mentally by weather.
Anne’s Kitchen: Boiled custard — yes, you can
Boiled custard is just plain good. It seems to be another one of those delights that have gone out of fashion in the past few decades.
Anne’s Kitchen: Salt crust cooking
Over the holidays I ran into a friend of mine who told me about one of her Christmas presents — a Himalayan salt block.
Anne’s Kitchen: Holiday latkes
Parade magazine may have stolen my thunder this past Sunday, but I’m going to talk about latkes anyway.
Anne’s Kitchen: Great bites for the holidays
At a reception held at the Rosenzweig Arts Center during the most recent Decorative Arts Forum I could hardly tear myself away from the table where a huge bowl was stacked with twisted strips of brown sugar bacon.

Market Fresh: Aim to please with green peas
The abundance of English peas at the Hitching Lot Farmers’ Market in Columbus this season has been welcome.

Finally, we can all breathe a sign of relief and enjoy this glorious spring, with summer following soon. And, there is no better harbinger of the warm days ahead than the grand opening of the Hitching Lot Farmers’ Market on Saturday.
Voice of the people: Anne Freeze
Appreciates watchful eye of CPD I would like to urge our community to use a wonderful service provided by the Columbus Police Department. My husband
Anne Freeze: Goodies out there, to share
A week ago Terry and I drove to Chattanooga, Tenn., for a wonderful weekend. The impetus for the trip was another of the Southern Foodways Alliance event, this time a Potlikker Film Festival held at Warehouse Row in Chattanooga. Two of my favorite people (who happen to be married) live on Lookout Mountain, so we needed little incentive to go.
Anne Freeze: Whaddyha have? Whaddyha have?
I have been working on a project at my dining table for five or so days. I had gotten to the point of recipe overload and really was forced to take all of those little pages torn out of magazines and recipes from Momma’s recipe box and the dirty, greasy ones from my Foodworks binder and just lay them all out in designated piles.
