WEST POINT — After winning his seventh Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A state title, West Point football head coach Chris Chambless announced on Monday that he would be retiring as head coach of the Green Wave, sources confirmed to The Dispatch,
Chambless is retiring after a historic 18-year head coaching career at West Point where he finished with a record of 206-45.
Under Chambless, the Green Wave amassed an 110-11 district record with 11 district titles and a streak of eight-straight state championship appearances, winning five state title games during that streak.
Chambless is the lone head coach in Green Wave history to win 200 or more games, and he joins a select list of Mississippi high school football coaches to ever achieve the mark.
