Three West Lowndes High School football players signed their letters of intent to play college football on Wednesday, as offensive lineman Royquavious Williams, wide receiver Marquez Shelton and tight end Decamby Willis each accepted offers from Mississippi community colleges on National Signing Day.
Williams and Shelton will be joining Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Willis is heading to Mississippi Delta Community College.
“I’m very excited, it’s a blessing for myself to go,” Willis said. “I believe in myself that I can make it happen. Now I just gotta go and be a dog in college.”
Willis was an important part of the offense alongside Shelton in the passing game. Both players posed a serious receiving threat, while Williams led an accomplished offensive line from the center position.
“I think I’m gonna go do the same things I did here,” Williams said. “I’m gonna grind, do the assignments, do whatever I gotta do to get to the next level I know I can make it; I’m praying I make it.”
“I had a great time here with my coach and my teammates,” Shelton said. “I’ve talked a lot with (Northeast), and I’m very excited to show what I can do.”
“I think they’ll do great at the next level,” West Lowndes coach Anthony King said. “They’ve got a lot of experience. All of them have been playing pretty much five years here, and they just gotta continue the process.
“I think it’s big for a 1A school to get guys going (to the next level), and it lets you know that even going to a 1A you can still get a chance to go to the next level. We try to encourage all of them, let them know that everything starts in the weight room. If you make a committed effort to the weight room, you can get a chance to play at the next level.”
