Sacks the Mississippi State linebacker tandem of Benardrick McKinney and Beniquez Brown delivered, MSU’s only two of the game. While the Bulldogs’ defensive line struggled to create the havoc it caused in the 49-0 victory against Southern Mississippi, the linebackers provided steady pressure. All-Southeastern Conference candidate Benardrick McKinney stuffed Alabama-Birmingham quarterback Cody Clements on the Blazers’ second drive of the second half for his first sack of the season, while Brown dropped Clements early in the first half for his first career sack.
The two backers combined for 18 tackles (12 by McKinney, six by Brown) and five and a half tackles for loss.

A new career-high in carries for tailback Josh Robinson, who has emerged as a go-to back beside Prescott. A week after combining for 137 yards on 16 touches against Southern Miss, Robinson rushed for a career-best 124 yards on 20 carries. His 17-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was his first of the season.
“I still need to focus on the little things to keep getting better,” Robinson said. “I played better today than I did last week. Now I have to make sure I play better next week than I did today.”

Through two games, that is how many yards MSU is averaging, scoring 49 and 47 points, respectively. The Bulldogs’ effort against the Blazers, while not as dominating as its performance against Southern Miss, featured a greater concentration of rushes by the Bulldogs, who ran the ball 57 times for 292 yards.

UAB had five passing plays of 50 yards or better, including three touchdowns that covered at least 75 yards.
“That is embarrassing because that’s not how we play defense at Mississippi State,” MSU defensive end Preston Smith said.
