COLUMBUS — Mississippi University for Women has officially begun its first season as a full NCAA Division III member and on Tuesday, two Owls earned St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Week honors.
Women’s golf senior Olivia Derbyshire was named the SLIAC women’s golf Player of the Week, the first such DIII honor for an MUW athlete.
Derbyshire finished 25th out of 80 golfers at the Transylvania University Fall Invitational in Kentucky, shooting a 78 on the Sunday of the invitational, her best of the weekend.
Suggs was named SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball as the senior averaged 6.8 digs a set over her first three matches, recording 61 total digs as well as a .978 reception percentage.
