Mississippi State women’s golf is quite busy this week hosting ‘The Ally’ at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, but left out of the lineup for this tournament were arguably MSU’s two best golfers.
Juniors Julia Lopez Ramirez and Chiara Horder were nowhere to be found, but the two aren’t hurt or serving suspensions; they are representing their countries at the 2023 IGF World Amateur Team Championships in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Originally held every two years on even years, the event has now been switched to odd years starting in 2023, and 36 teams will be vying for the Espirito Santo Trophy at Abu Dhabi Golf Course starting Wednesday.
Horder, a native of Munich, Germany, is serving as active team captain of Team Germany in the event, and Lopez will be playing for her home country of Spain.
Mississippi State is one of two programs to have two players participating in the event. There will be three rounds of stroke play competition to decide a winner following Friday’s third round.
