For the first time in MUW athletics history, an Owl has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Year.
Men’s basketball standout Tray Huguely was given that honor to wrap up a standout athletic awards year for both The W’s men’s basketball team and its athletic department as a whole.
“This is certainly a well-deserved honor for Tray after such an impressive season,” MUW’s former head coach and current assistant athletic director Dean Burrows said in a release. “The fact that he came in as a first-year player in our program and was able to produce at a record-breaking pace, as he did immediately, tells you that MUW is a great spot for top players to be successful on the court and in the classroom right out of the blocks.”
Huguley, a Saks, Ala., native, helped spur the Owls to a record-setting season while having one himself. Huguley and the Owls clinched MUW’s first-ever SLIAC tournament championship, which also earned the team the right to gain entrance into the NCAA Division III tournament for the first time ever as well. Huguley led the team with a double-double average of 22.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game – including 18 double-double games and double-digit scoring in all 26 games he played. On Dec. 6, 2025, Huguley set the school-record for points in a game with a 51-point explosion against Greenville University, and he hauled in a school-record 22 rebounds against Southeastern Baptist on Jan. 13.
He was tabbed as a first-team All-SLIAC selection after the season and was named the SLIAC men’s basketball Player of the Year, after earning six SLIAC Player of the Week honors during the season. He also took home NCAA III all-region honors by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and D3Hoops.com.
“And in our ‘team-first culture’, this kind of an award is more than about just one player; it is literally shared by our entire roster,” Burrows said. “I’m sure Tray would be the first to acknowledge that fact. People can’t forget that when opponents keyed too much on Tray this season, we had lots of other ‘weapons’ step up and produce successfully.”
