TUPELO — Starkville boys soccer defeated Tupelo in a penalty kick shootout on Friday night, 3-2.
The Yellow Jackets (10-3, 4-0 District) had goals scored from Brayden Green and Holloway Willsey in regulation, both assists coming from Ben Buehler, before a scoreless overtime period.
All four Starkville players: Buehler, Green, Micah Kind and, Micah Caples, all scored their penalties in the shootout as goalkeeper Xavier Ezell, saved Tupelo’s last two penalties to secure the victory.
Starkville will host Northwest Rankin in its next game at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

SOUTHAVEN — Starkville girls basketball defeated Hutchinson School (TN), 54-40, at the Shan Whiteside Sideline Cancer Classic at DeSoto Central High School on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (9-2) were led by Jamaica Young, who won Player of the Game honors after scoring a game-high 20 points. Zariyah Edwards also scored 14 points for Starkville in the victory.
Starkville will travel to play Tupelo in its next game at 6 p.m. Jan. 3.
Noxubee County 49, Amory 32
AMORY — Noxubee County girls basketball won its first district game of the season, a 49-32 road win over Amory on Friday night.
The Tigers (4-1) were led by Tootie Lockett, who scored 22 points in the win.
Noxubee County will take on West Point in its next game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Noxubee County 71, Kemper County 69
DEKALB — Noxubee County stormed back for a thrilling, 71-69 victory over Kemper County on the road on Saturday.
Tootie Lockett once again shined for the Tigers (5-1) scoring a game-high 32 points in the win. Jamaya Dancy also had 14 points for Noxubee County.
Noxubee County will take on West Point in its next game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Regents of Oxford 51, Columbus Christian Academy 41
OXFORD — Columbus Christian Academy girls basketball fell to Regents of Oxford in a 51-41 road loss on Friday night.
The Rams (7-5, 0-2 District) were led by Carrie Kinard and Faith Yeates, who each scored 10 points in the loss.
Columbus Christian Academy will travel to play Starkville Academy in its next game at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Columbus boys basketball defeated West Lowndes, 80-51, in the 2022 Joe Horne Christmas Classic on Saturday night.
Josh Smith led all scorers with 25 points for the Falcons (7-5), with Jace O’Neal contributing 15 points and Jeremiah Aaron and Jakele Phillips each scoring 10 points for Columbus.
Cameron Ellis and Elijah Johnson each led the Panthers (6-6) in scoring with 13 points in the loss.
Columbus will travel to play Saltillo in its next game at 7 p.m. Jan. 3 while West Lowndes will host Kemper County in its next game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Columbus 56, Louisville 50
LOUISVILLE — Columbus boys basketball defeated Louisville on the road, 56-50, on Friday night.
Jayden Tatum led the Falcons (2-8) in the win, with a game-high 27 points. Marreon Smith also had 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks for Columbus.
Columbus will travel to play Saltillo in its next game at 7 p.m. Jan. 3.
Regents of Oxford 52, Columbus Christian Academy 46
OXFORD — Columbus Christian Academy boys basketball fell in a close game to Regents of Oxford, 52-46, on the road on Friday night.
The Rams (9-2, 1-1 District) were led by Mason Wright, who scored 11 points in loss, and Garrett Weathers, who scored 10 points for CCA.
Columbus Christian Academy will travel to play Starkville Academy in its next game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
