STARKVILLE — Starkville Academy archery has set itself up for a competitive state championship meet in two weeks in Jackson after a strong performance at North State championships in Oxford this week.
The Vols participated in seven meets this season and after Wednesday’s performance in Oxford, they’ll be well-represented at state championships.
“My kids have been shooting well, aiming for higher team scores each meet,” Starkville Academy head coach Tate Fischer said. “… All of the shooters that participated yesterday were able to qualify for state.”
Starkville Academy had 29 total shooters in Oxford on Wednesday, shooting 3168 as a team when adding up the top 12 scores from the competition, just two points behind Leake Academy.
Pacing the boys was Jonathan Stancill with a 279 and the best shooter for the girls was Tina Trac with a 271.
This is now the second-straight year, following a first place finish at North State qualifiers in 2022, that the Vols have posted a top-2 finish.
While Stancill led the boys on Wednesday, Jackson Walters has been consistently amongst the best archers on the boys side, and Trac continued a great season with another top finish this week on the girls side.
Now, the focus shifts to the Fordice Center as the Vols look to cap off another solid season.
“Our season has been successful because of tremendous support for the school administration and our wonderful parents,” Fischer said. “Fingers crossed we’ll shoot our best score of the year in Jackson.”
