Freshman wide receiver Zavion Thomas is the latest Mississippi State football player to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Thomas announced his departure from the program Thursday afternoon, thanking the Bulldogs’ staff for “believing in me.”
“After a great freshman season and a lot of prayers and thoughts I will be entering my name in the transfer portal with 3 years left of eligibility,” Thomas wrote in a social media post.
A four-star recruit from Marrero, Louisiana, Thomas impressed in preseason camp at wideout and at punt returner during the 2022 campaign. He caught just two passes for four yards this season.
His signature moment came Nov. 12 against Georgia, when he returned a punt for a touchdown just before halftime. Thomas averaged 13.47 yards on his 15 punt returns.
Thomas follows running back Dillon Johnson — who voiced frustration with coach Mike Leach — and wide receiver Rara Thomas into the transfer portal, among other Bulldogs who have departed.
