STARKVILLE — Mississippi State softball star Sierra Sacco continues to pick up individual honors after a strong finish to her collegiate career, becoming the second consensus All-American in program history.
Last week, Sacco was named a First-Team All-American by Softball America. This week, she was honored with selections from D1Softball and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Sacco joins program legend Mia Davidson as the only Bulldog players recognized as All-Americans by three different outlets in a single season.
“For me, it was a goal that I’ve set since entering college; however, it was kind of like those goals you set that seem out of reach, but still something you would like to do someday,” Sacco said of the honor. “To me, names on that list were like celebrities, the best of the best, and athletes who were heads and shoulders above the rest. Now it truly feels like my dreams have come true, and everything that I’ve worked for has paid off. It is such an honor that still takes my breath away to realize that I’ve accomplished it.”
Sacco became a key player on both offense and defense in her time with the Bulldogs, cementing her legacy by becoming the program’s first outfield All-American since Iyhia McMichael in 2004. She never committed an error in 157 career chances at State and became the first Bulldog outfielder with back-to-back errorless seasons with at least 50 chances since 2014.
In 2025, Sacco posted a .450 batting average and finished the year with 64 runs scored and 19 doubles. She ranked in the top 20 nationally in doubles, hits, runs and batting average, and collected 32 extra-base hits with 27 multi-hit games, 13 multi-RBI games and 22 two-out RBI.
“Sierra Sacco set big goals and showed up every single day to chase them,” MSU head coach Samantha Rickets said of the star senior. “This honor is well-deserved, and it’s a reflection of the consistency and toughness she brings to the game. More than anything, she’s represented Mississippi State the right way, with grit, humility and pride.”
Sacco and Bulldog teammate Raelin Chaffin were both drafted into the inaugural Athletes Unlimited Softball League, joining the Talons. This week, Major League Baseball announced a strategic investment in the AUSL to help support the growth of the fledgling league, the latest of many attempts to establish professional softball.
