COLUMBUS —- Some of the top anglers in the country are gathering in Columbus this week for the 2025 St. Croix Bassmaster Open on the Tombigbee River. It’s the second Bassmaster Open Division 1 event of the year after the January Clarks Hill Reservoir Open in Georgia.
141 anglers set off at the 6:15 a.m. launch on Wednesday and began the weigh-in at 2:15 p.m. after a morning on the water.
After the opening round, Russ Lane stands atop the leaderboard with a total weight of 17 lbs, 10 oz., with five fish on Day 1. Trey Schroeder sits in second behind Lane with a total weight of 16 lbs, 4 oz. Grae Buck sits in third at 15 lbs, 6oz., holding just a 3 oz. lead over fourth-place angler Cole Drummond.
Anglers Bryson Osteen, Kyle Weisenburger, Cody Nichols, Tyler Conde, Dylan Fogarty and Trey Swindle round out the Top 10 after the first day on the water.
Caledonia native Clint Pegg had a strong outing on the first day of the competition, weighing in at 13 lbs, 5 oz to slot into 14th in the standings.
Contestants will launch again today and weigh in at 2:15 p.m. The Top 10 will compete for the championship on Friday.
