STARKVILLE – Mississippi State baseball kept on rolling with its eighth straight win at home on Tuesday, defeating Grambling State 12-0 in seven innings.
The Bulldogs (25-4, 7-2 SEC) scored in each of the first six innings, starting the scoring in the first thanks to a balk on loaded bases, followed by a two-run double by Ryder Woodson.
Ace Reese, Gehrig Frei, Jacob Parker, Peter Mershon and James Nunnallee would add RBI at bats, and catcher Andrew Raymond hit a laser of a home run to straightaway center on a pinch hit opportunity.
MSU head coach Brian O’Connor and pitching coach Justin Parker oversaw another strong bullpen game, getting opportunities for Chris Billingsley Jr., Jack Bauer, Jack Gleason, Brendan Sweeney, Peyton Fowler and Parker Rhodes.
Trey Bridges broke the no-hitter with a drive through the gap in shallow center at the top of the sixth inning, putting two runners on base for the visitors with two gone. Junior reliever Peyton Fowler was in the middle of his first appearance of the season out of the bullpen, and managed to avoid losing the shutout with a strikeout to end the top half.
MSU will begin its series against No. 5 Georgia on Thursday at 6 p.m.
