Mississippi State men’s basketball lost its second SEC game in a row on Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa, falling 100-75 against No. 17 Alabama.
The Bulldogs (13-15, 5-10 SEC) have now equalled the same number of conference losses as they had in each of the last three years under head coach Chris Jans, with three games left to play in the campaign. Despite wins against Ole Miss and Auburn, MSU has posted back-to-back losses in which the team conceded 97 and 100 points, respectively, to South Carolina and the Crimson Tide.
The starting five featured Jayden Epps despite sustaining a minor injury on the road at South Carolina last weekend, but the offense was lacking in Tuscaloosa. Achor Achor led the team with 18 points on 7-14 shooting and freshman King Grace added 13 off the bench, with the pair hitting three treys each from beyond the arc.
MSU’s top scorer, Josh Hubbard, had a lsow night with 11 points on 4-13 shooting, going 2-6 from three-point range, while Epps recorded eight points on 3-12 shooting.
The Crimson Tide pulled away early in the contest with a dominant performance on the board, leading 63-33 at halftime. Amari Allen led the team with 23 points on 8-10 shooting, hitting 6-7 from beyond the arc. The Tide hit 22-50 from three as a team.
MSU is back in action at home against Mizzou this weekend. Tipoff against the Tigers is set for noon on Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum.
