COLUMBUS — Local celebrations for July 4th will start their engines a bit early on Wednesday night at the Magnolia Motor Speedway with the annual Racing & Fireworks event. The local race track will host well over 100 cars on the eve of Independence Day, with seven different events set to take place.
“I’m a little old school so it’s just what we do around here,” Magnolia Speedway promoter Johnny Stokes said of the annual event. “It’s always been a good event for us to host and people love it. The people love the fireworks.”
Seven different classes of racing car on display will include United Sprint Car Series, S&J Auto Sales Crate Late Model cars, Trak-Star Street Stock cars, William Wells Three Star Tire Factory Stock cars, Guest Body Shop Late Model Sportsman, Rogers-Dabbs Performance Parts Modifieds, and Eaton Clinic Hot Shots.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. Racing starts at 8 p.m. Tickets for adults and children are $25 and there is free admission for children 10 and under.
Normal service will resume at the racing track on the weekend of July 12-13 with the return of Crate Racin’ USA events, when the track will host The Governor’s Cup.
