Cate Nobles swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 9.07 seconds to finish second and lead the Starkville High School girls swim team to a sixth-place finish in the MHSAA Class II Championships on Friday in Tupelo.
The Yellow Jackets finished with 35 points, three behind fifth-place Northwest Rankin and seven ahead of Germantown. Madison Central won the meet with 135.5 points.
Arianna Dyess finished eighth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:05.21 for Starkville, while West Boren swam the 100-yard freestyle in 57.86 to place eighth. The Yellow Jackets scored points in the relays, finishing fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.66) and 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.23) and placing sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:06.80).
On the boys side, the 100-yard breaststroke was the highlight for Starkville, as Colin Kennedy finished third in 1:03.83 and Breth Magbanua placed fifth in 1:06.04.
The Yellow Jackets placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.56 and took eighth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:40.32 to account for the rest of their eighth-place total of 20 points, tied with St. Martin, two points ahead of 10th-place Clinton. Madison Central also won the boys title, finishing with 100 points to second-place Tupelo’s 90.
