Keshawn Henley scored on a 42-yard run less than a minute into the game and the West Point High School football team kept right on going and posted a 42-6 win over Vicksburg in an MHSAA Class 5A semifinal game Friday night in West Point.
Two plays after Jacoby McQuiller intercepted Vicksburg quarterback Ronnie Alexander on the first play of the game, Henley scored to start the rout. Henley and Cameron Young each scored two first-half touchdowns for West Point, which compiled 272 yards rushing.
Kahnen Daniels led the Green Wave with 65 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Young finished with 62 yards rushing, and Henley totaled 51. Jaquantis Harris also rushed for a score for West Point (10-2).
The Green Wave ran few passing plays, but they were largely successful, completing 3 of 4 for 90 yards. Ahmari Cox hit Shun Melton for 34 yards, while Que Tillman-Evans found Cox for 31 yards and Kolban Hogan for 25 yards.
The Gators scored on the last play of the game to avoid the shutout.
Next up for the Green Wave as they go for a fifth state title in six years is a visit from Neshoba Central, which advanced with a 23-20 win over Lafayette on Friday night. The Rockets and Green Wave have met three times in the playoffs, with the Green Wave winning each time, most recently a 20-7 semifinal win in 2019.
Overall, West Point owns a 14-7 record against Neshoba Central.
Boys soccer
Heritage Academy 2, Magnolia Heights 1: Armando Leyva scored on a free kick to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the Patriots over the Chiefs in their season and district opener in Senatobia.
Both teams were scoreless from the field, with Heritage scoring its first goal on an own goal off of a corner kick and Magnolia Heights scoring on a free kick.
The Patriots are off until a road match Dec. 2 against East Rankin before returning home for matches Dec. 7 against Starkville Academy and Dec. 9 against Columbus.

Boys basketball
Columbus Christian 54, Calhoun Academy 13: Joe Edwards scored 19 points to lead the Rams over the Cougars on Friday night in Steens.
Jacob Minga scored 10 points, while Mason Wright and Jackson Howard eached added eight for CCA (2-1).
Calhoun Academy is 0-1.
Girls basketball
Columbus Christian 37, Calhoun Academy 21: Faith Yeates (15 points) and Morgan Whitten (14) carried the bulk of the scoring load for the Rams in their win over the Cougars.
Carrie Kinard added two 3-pointers for CCA (3-1).
