UNION GROVE, Ala. — What a weekend for the Mississippi University of Women men’s and women’s golf teams at the Alabama Invasion, hosted by Spalding University.
The men’s team had both its ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams playing, and the two finished first and second respectively in the 10-team, nine-school field, shooting 40-over par and 53-over par across the two-day event, five strokes in front of the next-closest school.
“I’m extremely proud of both teams,” head coach Benji Williams said. “Placing first and second is awesome. It just shows how much depth is on this team and it feels good to be able to put any lineup out.”
In the individual competition, Spence Davis paced the Owls, shooting six-over in the two rounds, finishing in second place overall, one stroke behind the overall individual leader.
MUW had four of the top-six golfers and five of the top-eight golfers overall at the Alabama Invasion.
“Spence showed up again this week for us,” Williams said. “He’s been really consistent this spring and has really picked up his game in the last month.”
On the women’s side, the Owls used a back-nine push on the final day to finish in a tie for fourth place with Hanover.
MUW finished 20 strokes out of a top-two finish and 39 strokes out of first place. Two Owls finished in the top-15 individually: freshman Ashley Easterbrook in 12th and sophomore Maddie Anglada, who tied for 13th.
