COLUMBUS – The W’s Kayleigh Griffin has been selected as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South Division Player of the Week for women’s tennis, it has been announced by the league office.
Griffin, a junior from Houston, Miss. – and who just joined the Owls’ program at the semester break – has made an immediate impact in becoming just the second MUW program member to ever be honored with the UMAC’s weekly award.
Last week, Griffin did not give up a point versus Holmes Community College last Friday. She won at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-0, score. Playing No. 1 doubles, she was a part of The W’s 6-0 win in that slot, as well. Versus Southwest Mississippi C.C. on Saturday, Griffin played No. 2 doubles and won, 6-4.
“It’s great to see one of our girls receive athlete of the week,” MUW Head Coach Hayden Embry said. “Kayleigh Ann has only been here a month and she’s already making big strides in her game. This is a great way to start out the year, leading into NCAA play this week.”
Griffin and The W team next travel to LaGrange College in Georgia on Friday.
