Mississippi University for Women cross country competed in its first conference championship meet as a member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) over the weekend, and freshman Hannah Owens continued her historic season with the Owls.
Having already set multiple school records in her first collegiate season, Owens shattered MUW’s 6-kilometer time at the SLIAC championships, finishing ninth individually with a time of 26:03.03.
She broke Kaitlyn McRee’s previous 6K record from last year by more than four minutes.
Owens earned second team all-conference honors with her run, just 15 seconds away from earning first team all-conference honors.
As a team, the Owls women tied for seventh and the men finished 10th.
“I’m happy with our first appearance in the conference championships,” head coach Dedrick Burnett said in Sunday’s press release. “The team we had this year will always be remembered as the first team to represent The W cross country program in a conference championship.”
