There was no slowing down the Rebels’ offense in Game 1 of the Fayetteville Super Regional.
Ole Miss scored nine runs in the first four innings and held on for a 9-7 win over Arkansas on Friday. Friday was the Rebels’ first-ever win in a super regional, and Ole Miss can book its ticket to the Women’s College World Series with a win either on Saturday or Sunday, if necessary.
Ole Miss jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an Aliyah Binford solo home run, but Arkansas’ Kailey Wyckoff answered with a three-run shot in the bottom of the inning. Ole Miss tied it 3-3 on a Taylor Roman two-RBI double in the top of the second.
The Rebels excelled at hitting with two outs, and that was on full display in the top of the third. Back-to-back doubles drove in a pair of runs, and Ashton Lansdell capped off a four-run two-out rally with a two-run dinger. Ole Miss ended the day with eight two-out RBIs.
Arkansas scored once in the bottom of the third, but Ole Miss added two more runs in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 9-4. After scoring in the fourth, Arkansas pulled within three on a Karlie Davison solo home run in the fifth.
The Razorbacks gave Ole Miss a scare in the bottom of the seventh after they put their first two hitters on base. Binford, pitching in relief, came up with back-to-back strikeouts before dishing out a walk to load the bases. Arkansas narrowed the deficit to two on a wild pitch, but Binford forced a flyout to end the game.
Both teams had their struggles in the circle – Arkansas used four different pitchers and Ole Miss had three. But Ole Miss found a way to get outs when it needed to, stranding 13 Arkansas runners. Freshman Miali Guachino picked up the win, while Binford recorded a save.
