OXFORD — Ole Miss and Georgia have played two very different games in the last two seasons.
In 2023, the then-No. 9 Rebels made their first trip to Athens, Georgia since 2012 and fell to the top-ranked Bulldogs 52-17. Georgia ran for 300 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns in the blowout victory. That result led to a full-on transfer portal reload for Ole Miss, who brought in stars like Walter Nolen, Princely Umanmielen, Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr. and Trey Amos in an effort to narrow the gap with the Bulldogs. The effort worked, as then-No. 16 Ole Miss dominated No. 3 Georgia 28-10 in Oxford in 2024.
No. 5 Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC) plays at No. 9 Georgia Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ABC. It will mark the third-straight year the teams have met as ranked opponents. Ole Miss has not won in Athens, Georgia since 1996. ESPN’s College GameDay will be live for the matchup as well.
“Exciting opportunity this week (to) go play at Georgia. I think our players and staff are really excited about that,” Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said. “ … It’s a very challenging team to always play, especially there. So, we’re going to have to have a great week of preparation and prepare to go on the road in a very tough environment with elite players and a phenomenal coaching staff.”
The Rebels are one of two remaining undefeated teams in the SEC along with No. 4 Texas A&M, though their latest effort left something to be desired. Coming off its first bye of the season, Ole Miss defeated Washington State 24-21 Saturday in a game the Rebels trailed early in the third quarter despite being more than 30-point favorites. Senior quarterback Trinidad Chambliss started his fourth-straight game for Ole Miss and finished with 268 total yards and three total touchdowns.
Georgia (5-1, 3-1) is coming off a 20-10 win at Auburn; the Bulldogs scored the final 20 points of the game after trailing by 10 early in the second quarter. Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has thrown for 1,264 yards and six touchdowns and has an additional 220 yards and six touchdowns rushing. The Bulldogs are third in the SEC with 18 total rushing touchdowns.
“(Stockton is) savvy, (will) make a lot of plays, keep plays alive,” Kiffin said. “And they’ve done a really good job with him of winning certain situations and not making bad errors to put them in bad situations.”
Ole Miss-Oklahoma time announced
Ole Miss and Oklahoma will kick off at 11 a.m. in Norman, Oklahoma. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
