STARKVILLE — The first game in the post Scott Foxhall era ended in another Mississippi State loss.
In their first home game in three weeks, the Bulldogs (24-21, 6-16 SEC) fell to No. 6 Arkansas, 6-2, Friday night at Dudy Noble Field, marking their fifth consecutive conference loss.
The Razorbacks (34-12, 15-7 SEC) hit two, two-run homers off of MSU starter Cade Smith, one from Jace Bohrofen in the first inning to give his team a 2-0 lead and another by Brady Slavens in the sixth to give Arkansas a 4-2 advantage.
Smith pitched six innings, allowing five hits, two walks, eight strikeouts and those four earned runs.
The Razorbacks added insurance runs in the ninth on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Kendall Diggs.
MSU got within a run with an RBI single from Colton Ledbetter in the third, then tied the game in the fifth when David Mershon scored on a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs tallied just two hits in the game, both from Ledbetter, and left nine runners on base.
The two teams will return to Dudy Noble Field for Saturday’s game No. 2 with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. (ESPN2).
