STARKVILLE — Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson was one of 51 linebackers in the nation named to the Butkus Award Watch List on Thursday.
The Butkus Award, named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Dick Butkus, is awarded annually to the nation’s best linebacker.
Watson is coming off a Second Team Pocasangre brings collegiate soccer experience with him to Scooba
All-Southeastern Conference season in 2022, finishing second in the SEC with 113 total tackles.
The graduate student led the Bulldogs with 12 tackles for loss and six sacks, setting career-highs for himself in all three categories.
This is the second different watch list Watson has been put on this preseason, as he was also named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List.
Additionally, Watson earned preseason All-SEC honors ahead of the 2023 season.
