After earning a 3-0 sweep of Blackburn College over the weekend in its first taste of SLIAC baseball action, MUW’s baseball team carried over its winning momentum into Tuesday where it obliterated Millsaps College, 30-6, for its sixth straight win
The Owls’ 30 runs are second-most in program history, only short of their record of 33 set in 2025. MUW dominated in the early going by racing out to an 8-1 lead though the first four innings, but then the flood gates opened. The Owls piled on seven more runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and then tacked on eight more in the eighth and closed the night with five more runs in the ninth. All Millsaps could manage against the hot bats of MUW was three runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth.
An impressive number in the final score was created by some equally as impressive numbers in the box score. MUW outhit Millsaps 25-6 with 28 RBI and 12 walks. Matthew Windham led all batters with six hits, seven RBI and five runs, and six more Owls produced at least two hits and one RBI. The team hit six doubles, two home runs and only committed two errors.
Joseph Grand got the win on the mound as he worked the first two innings with no hits and two strikeouts. Five more Owls took the mound in his replacement and the group combined for only four earned runs, five walks and four strikeouts. Millsaps’ Dylan Lozano was dealt the loss as he pitched the first 2 ⅓ innings and gave up six hits and four earned runs. A total of 12 Majors pitched against the Owls and the group combined to issue 28 earned runs, 12 walks, four wild pitches and seven strikeouts.
Up next, MUW (9-5, 3-0) is set to play three games in Tucson, Arizona, in the TIG Tournament over the weekend, beginning with a double-header against Aurora University on Friday. The first game begins at 11 a.m. and the second starts 30 minutes after the first game ends. On Saturday at 2:30 p.m. the Owls take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
