COLUMBUS — The Mississippi University for Women recognized the off-field success of its student-athletes this week with the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the Fall semester. 146 out of 209 athletes at the university posted a GPA of 3.00 or higher, including 13 two-sport student-athletes, for a department GPA of 3.21.
“Hats off to our student-athletes for another very strong effort in the classroom during the fall term,” Director of Athletics Buddy Foster said in a university press release. “As an NCAA Division III – as well as St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference – member, it is our goal to always perform well, both academically and athletically.”
Additionally, the university revealed that 93 student-athletes had a 3.50 or better, and 44 had 4.0 GPAs.
“To be able to generate this type of success in their studies – while carrying a full course load and supporting our department’s community outreach efforts – says a lot about the character and discipline of these young people,” Foster added. “Credit also goes to our coaches, as well as support personnel around campus, for all they do to ensure our student-athletes’ success.”
The W saw 15 athletes from its fall teams earn SLIAC All-Academic honors as well, featuring women from volleyball, golf, soccer and cross country teams.
