ROSEMONT, Ill. — Mississippi State softball’s two big stars from 2025 are continuing to shine at the professional level. Sierra Sacco hit the first home run in the history of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League on Saturday and added another RBI hit on Sunday to help earn fellow former Bulldog Raelin Chaffin a win from the circle. 

Sacco and Chaffin were drafted to the Talons and took on the Bandits in their first games of the season this weekend. 

Sacco’s historic hit was a solo shot to left field in the third inning of action, but the Bandits recovered to win the game 3-1. 

In Game 2 on Sunday, the Talons hit back with a 6-3 win. Sacco registered another RBI hit late in the game to help earn the win for Chaffin, who pitched three innings and allowed just one hit. 

The ace credited her team’s strong defensive play for securing the win. 

“I think the defense is incredible,” Chaffin said after the win. “I’ve talked about it the entire game, just all the plays they make like any ball that’s hit. Maybe I’m too confident. But I’m like, Oh, it’s an out like, I know every ball plays probably going to be an out. And I mean, that’s what happened today. I think I only had 2 strikeouts, everything else was fiddled by the defense. And they were just incredible.”

The season will take teams on a stadium tour around the country, with stops at McMurry Park in Sulphur, La., Jim Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kan., on the schedule. 

The postseason is set to be played nearby in a three-game series at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., July 26-28. 

The Talons play the Bandits again at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Ill., today at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN 2.
