Mississippi State women’s golf traveled to the Bahamas this week to play in the Nexus Collegiate Invitational, an 11-team tournament with seven Power Five schools participating, including fellow Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky.
The Bulldogs finished fifth as a team, shooting 26-over par over the 54-hole competition, 11 strokes behind tournament winners Tulsa.
Freshman Avery Weed was a bright spot for Mississippi State in the competition, finishing second individually as she shot one-under for the tournament.
Her final two rounds helped her shoot up the leaderboard, shooting two-under in the second round and one-under in the third and final round to secure an overall under-par finish.
Weed was the lone Bulldog to finish inside the top-20 among individual golfers and the only MSU golfer to shoot an under-par round in the tournament, let alone two.
MSU returns to action on March 4, playing in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
