STARKVILLE — It was a banner day on Wednesday for Mississippi State women’s golf freshman Avery Weed as she earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the first time in her career.
Weed had herself a fantastic individual tournament at the Nexus Collegiate Invitational, finishing tied for second place as she shot 1-under over three rounds and 54 holes of play.
She was the lone freshman and one of five golfers in the 66-player player field to shoot under par at the tournament as Mississippi State finished fifth out of 11 teams.
This is the best that a Bulldog freshman has done since current junior Julia Lopez Ramirez won the Westbrook Invitational in 2022.
It’s the fifth time a Mississippi State golfer has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors and first since Izzy Pellot last year.
