STARKVILLE — Mississippi State saw a second player intend to transfer Wednesday afternoon.
Former Starkville High School standout and sophomore wide receiver Cam Gardner announced via Twitter that he is planning to enter the transfer portal and depart MSU after three years of mixed results. Should Gardner leave, he would conclude his time as a Bulldog with 13 receptions for 110 yards and zero touchdowns.
“First off I would like to thank all the coaches that helped me on and off the field and also in helping me become a great young man through these three years I had at this wonderful university,” he wrote. “Second I would like to thank the players that I formed a special and unforgettable bond with over these three years at Mississippi State. I will never forget those memories we made together.”
Gardner becomes the second Bulldog in the past 24 hours to plan on leaving the program after a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed sophomore running back Lee Witherspoon had entered the transfer portal.
MSU closed its 2020 campaign at 4-7 with a win over No. 24 Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl last week.
