Things were looking great for Mississippi State volleyball following heading into the third set of Saturday’s match against Kennesaw State in the Kennesaw State Invitational.
Having won a five-set thriller against Western Michigan the day previous, the Bulldogs were in the driver’s seat, and that showed through the first two sets on Saturday, where they took an emphatic 2-0 match lead.
However, in a close third set, the Owls started what became a dramatic downfall for Mississippi State, reverse sweeping the Bulldogs at home before Wake Forest swept MSU on Sunday. The Bulldogs finished the weekend dropping six consecutive sets and two straight matches, falling to 5-3 on the season.
The Bulldogs almost let a two-set lead fall apart on Friday as Western Michigan fought back to force a fifth set.
The Bulldogs managed to salvage the final set of that match, hitting .308 compared to .063 for the Broncos.
Mississippi State has two non-conference matches left before Southeastern Conference play, both at the Maroon & White Invitational that starts with Lipscomb at 6 p.m. Thursday in Starkville.
