STARKVILLE — Mississippi State sophomore guard JaMya Mingo-Young announced Tuesday she intends to leave the program.
Mingo-Young, who just wrapped up her sophomore season in Starkville, released a statement via Twitter that she plans to enter the transfer portal after two years at MSU.
“This was not an easy decision to make, but after much thought and consideration with my family, friends and career mentors, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal,” she wrote. “I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my degree at Mississippi State University and play basketball for such a great program these last two years.”
Mingo-Young was rated a four-star recruit and the No. 97 player in the 2019 class according to ESPN HoopGurlz. Over two seasons in Starkville, the Louisiana native averaged 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
Following a limited out[put her freshman year, Mingo-Young doubled her minutes per game while notching 5.6 points, three assists and 3.9 rebounds per contest this season.
She also becomes the second player to enter the transfer portal in the past 10 days after junior forward Xaria Wiggins did so last week.
MSU concluded its 2020-21 campaign, its first under head coach Nikki Mccray-Penson, 10-9 (5-7 SEC) and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2013-14 season. A source with knowledge fo the situation told The Dispatch Monday the school turned down an invitation to the WNIT in recent days.
