STARKVILLE — MIssissippi State coach Joe Moorhead has dipped into the transfer portal again.
MSU athletics confirmed Thursday afternoon that former LSU offensive lineman Cole Smith will join the Bulldogs this season as a walk-on. He will be eligible for the 2020 season.
Smith redshirted his freshman year at LSU and will have four seasons of eligibility left.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound center was a three-star recruit and the No. 433 player nationally in the class of 2018 according to 247sports.com’s rankings.
A Pontotoc High School product, Smith chose LSU over reported offers from MSU,Oregon, Southern Miss and Arkansas State among others.
With Darryl Thompson heading into his senior season, he could prove to be the Bulldogs’ replacement for the second team All-SEC performer in 2020.
