COLUMBUS — The Lowndes County Sports Hall of Fame set a date for the announcement of its inaugural class as well as the inaugural induction ceremony. The class will be announced at a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau office.
The press conference will be attended by several of the nominees and their families, per Hall of Fame Secretary Henry Matuszak.
The organization was formed last spring with the intent to induct between 10 and 15 nominees in the inaugural class, though plans for smaller classes in the future. They began accepting nominations in June 2024 and received more than 30 names for consideration, including Super Bowl champion player and NFL coach Leslie Frazier, former Mississippi University for Women physical education chair Emma Ody Pohl, and former Ole Miss player and head coach Billy Brewer.
The organization’s first banquet ceremony will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. April 18 at Trotter Convention Center downtown. Tickets to the banquet are open for sale to the public, priced at $30 per person. Tickets are available to purchase through the organization’s website: https://lowndescountysportshalloffame.com/
