Mississippi State men’s basketball head coach Chris Jans made a new addition to his staff this week, hiring Erik Johansson as the program’s director of scouting and analytics. The appointment was announced on Thursday.

Johansson is the third director on staff, working alongside director of basketball operations Danny Manuel and director of recruiting Joe Rogers. His job will focus on scouting, analytics and strategy with the rest of the coaching staff to create scouting reports, development plans for players and help with film study, much like Jordan Sperber did on Jans’ staff last season.
Johansson spent four years working as a video coordinator at Loyola Marymount, his alma mater, after finishing his playing career for the Lions. He was a graduate assistant from 2020-2022 before being elevated to the staff.
As a player, Johansson played in 118 games over four seasons, starting 30 of 32 games as a senior. He was a two-time West Coast Conference All-Academic selection.
The Swedish national graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2020 and a Master of Arts in educational studies in 2022.
Before enrolling at Loyola Marymount, Johansson played three years with the Sӧdertӓlje Kings in the Swedish Basketball League, winning three straight championships from 2014 to 2016.
