Former Mississippi State interim head coach Greg Knox will remain with the Bulldogs under new head coach Jeff Lebby as the director of career and professional development.
Knox, who served as head coach for MSU’s last two games after Zach Arnett was fired on Nov. 13, will help lead a new program Lebby created called, “D.A.W.G.,” which stands for “Developing A Winning Game Plan.” Per an athletic department release, the program is designed to help current Bulldogs players find success on and off the field while also serving as a resource for former players.
Previously an assistant coach at MSU from 2009 through 2017 under Dan Mullen, Knox also has experience at Ole Miss, Auburn and Florida, and he spent the 2022 season coaching running backs at Buffalo. His first stint as interim head coach with the Bulldogs came in the 2017 TaxSlayer Bowl, when he coached MSU to a win over a Lamar Jackson-led Louisville team.
Lebby also named Jason Washington, who spent this past season as the Bulldogs’ director of player development, to the D.A.W.G. leadership team. Washington joined MSU’s staff in 2020 as the safeties coach under Mike Leach, then became the running backs coach in 2022. He had previously coached defensive backs at Texas, Houston, Texas State and Rice, and played both football and baseball for Texas State.
Gerri Green, a former Bulldogs linebacker and defensive lineman, will also be leading D.A.W.G. alongside Knox and Washington. Green was drafted in the sixth round by the Indianapolis Colts in 2019 and spent parts of four seasons with six different NFL organizations, but never appeared in a regular-season game.
