East Mississippi Community College continues to produce top-end talent on the football field, potentially none more noteworthy in recent years than current Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly.
Kelly played one season with the Lions in 2014, helping EMCC win a national championship in the process. After a carousel of professional teams, things have stuck in the Canadian Football League.
On Thursday, the Buffalo native was named CFL Most Outstanding Player for the 2023 season, throwing for 4,123 yards and 23 touchdowns in the air and 248 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
He was 15-1 as a starter with the Argos this season, as they finished with the CFL’s best record at 16-2 record.
Kelly led the league in yards per completion, was second in quarterback efficiency, third in passing touchdowns and fourth in passing yards and completion percentage.
The Argos fell in the East Division Final against the Montreal Alouettes last Saturday. Kelly is the first Toronto player to win league MOP since 2012.
