COLUMBUS — Two Falcons made their decision to play at the next level together on Wednesday, with Jace O’Neal and Wilton Bush both signing for East Mississippi Community College.
Both players had multiple offers to play junior college ball, but made the decision to continue playing together with the Lions.
“I got another opportunity to work with my best friend, my brother, for another couple of years,” O’Neal said of the decision. “We wanted to play together again, we’ve played together since we were eight years old, so we’ve always been close.”
“It feels amazing,” Bush added. “We’ve always wanted to play together. I wish we had more years together here and at AAU, but it’s been amazing. It was amazing here, and took a lot of hard work that I wasn’t really used to, but Coach Morris got me right and I appreciate that.”
O’Neal and Bush were members of another strong Falcons team this season, finishing undefeated in district play and a 24-5 overall record before exiting in the second round of the playoffs.
Head coach Phillip Morris spoke highly of their contributions to the team, and was happy to see them make the leap together.
“It should be fun for them,” he said. “Initially they thought they’d end up in different places. I’m not sure what changed, but at the end of the day they both made the decision. I think it’s a good school, the coach recruited them hard and I’m glad they’re going to take this next step together.”
