Perfection.
There is nothing quite like it in sports.
For the East Mississippi Community College football program, perfection is quietly becoming the norm.
EMCC won its second straight and third overall National Junior College Athletic Association national championship earlier this month after finishing the school’s third undefeated season.
“The goal is to win championships,” EMCC sophomore linebacker Justin Lucas said. “To win the national title, you pretty much have to win every game, so it’s what we try to do.”
The EMCC national championship run is being recognized today as the Dispatch’s top local sports story for 2014.
Coach Buddy Stephens’ squad won its sixth Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges North Division championship in seven seasons.
EMCC followed that up with three postseason wins, including a 34-17 decision over Iowa Western Community College in the national title game.
