East Mississippi Community College (4-2) came in eighth in the Monday’s new National Junior College Athletic Association football poll, dropping five spots from last week.
The Lions’ national championship hopes are all but gone after last week’s second loss, a home defeat to new No. 2 Northwest Mississippi (5-1).
Northwest trailed only Mississippi Gulf Coast (6-0) in the poll after the previous top team, Hutchinson (Kansas), suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday.
Hinds (5-1), the other team to beat East Mississippi this season, came in sixth. Jones (4-2) was 12th, and East Central (4-2) was 19th.
The Lions will travel to face Holmes (2-4) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Goodman.
