East Mississippi Community College (4-3) fell nine spots to No. 17 in Monday’s new National Junior College Athletic Association football poll.
The Lions’ 49-42 loss Thursday to Holmes (3-4) precipitated another slide for the defending national champions, who have lost two straight games. No. 2 Northwest Mississippi beat EMCC in Scooba two weeks ago.
Mississippi Gulf Coast (7-0), one of three undefeated teams in the rankings, remained in the top spot. Hinds was sixth, Jones was 10th, and East Central, Holmes and Copiah-Lincoln all received votes.
EMCC and Iowa Western, which finished tied for 18th, are the only two teams with three losses to crack the top 20.
EMCC visits Coahoma (1-6) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Clarksdale.
